Roundhill’s Maths Stars Rise to the Challenge

Year 5 pupils from Roundill Primary School in Bath proved they were good with numbers when they took part in the Year 5 Maths Challenge Day at Prior Park College on Thursday 30 April.

The team of four - Harrison, Yixiao, Darcie-Rose and Tiege – worked together against 14 other school teams to tackle six brain-bending challenges that tested everything from logic to teamwork. The Roundhill team came fourth overall.

Challenges ranged from a 15-minute quickfire number round fluency activity, to an hour-long construction round where children had to build the tallest, yet strongest tower. Roundhill pupils won extra points for creativity when they used origami skills.

Darcie-Rose said, "I really like doing the KenKen! It was a maths puzzle like Sudoku and it was harder to solve than the others!"
