Pupils celebrate first year of Cameley Café

Pupils from Cameley CEVC Primary School & Nursery in Temple Cloud have spent the last year serving cups of tea and slices of cake, as their popular Cameley Café celebrates its first anniversary serving the Chew Valley community.
Held on the first Wednesday of every month at the school, the café has provided a valuable opportunity for Years 5 and 6 pupils to develop their communication and hospitality skills. Working in partnership with volunteers from St Barnabas Church, pupils help to serve teas, coffees and homemade cakes to local residents, creating a warm and welcoming community space.
Talking about their participation in the café, pupil Xia said:
“You can have fun and communicate with new people.”
Lumen said:
“I like it because you get to learn about other people and it makes their day, sometimes even their week!”
Deputy Headteacher Clare Gardner said:
“A year on, our community cafe continues to thrive thanks to the incredible support of St Barnabas church. The community cafe has given our pupils real-world skills, confidence and pride. It's more than a café, to us it’s a place where young people can learn the power of service and connection. In just one year it has grown into a warm and welcoming space where everyone is made to feel welcome.'
The School Cafe is open on the first Wednesday of every month, 10-11:15am.
